Abstract
This report (Contract No. H0111556) presents the results of a study to design, construct, and test a low-cost pressure gage to be used to monitor the change in load on individual roof bolts. The purpose of the gage is to offer a convenient means of estimating the stability of roof fall areas based on the premise that the load on individual roof bolts changes prior to failure. The gage indicated loads between 3,000 and 15,000 pounds with a +/-10 percent error. The unit can be read on a bolt to within +/-1,000 pounds load from a distance of 20 feet.
