Field Testing Tracer Gas Survey Techniques to Quantify Leakage Ventilation.

This report describes the field tests made with sulfur hexafluoride tracer gas to measure leakage ventilation in a multilevel, multivein, hardrock mine. The tests demonstrated that the equipment and methods developed by the Bureau of Mines can be used successfully in measuring recirculation and leakage in complicated ventilation circuits. The results show that the technique can be useful in planning escapeways. The sulfur hexafluoride technique can reliably predict whether air leakage from return airways will contaminate escapeways.
