Speeding coal mining operations by recovering and utilizing methane from coal beds.
Coal Age 1975 Jul; 80(8):104-106
Bureau of Mines research has shown that most of the methane can be removed from permeable coalbeds before the coal is mined, and that by using hydraulic simulation--a well-established oilfield technique- -commercial quantities of pipeline-quality gas can be produced. To help transfer these research results into commercial practice that will begin to recover the vast resource of coalbed gas, a program has been undertaken to demonstrate the commercial feasibility of recovering and utilizing methane from coalbeds and underground gob areas.
