Economic Feasibility of Recovering and Utilizing Methane Emitted from Coal.

The work covered in this report was carried out to review methods of removing methane from active and inactive regions of operating coal mines and to determine how the methane could be concentrated and utilized economically. The work included a study and evaluation of methane drainage methods, the classification of mines into potential methane-producing groups and regions, a study of techniques for concentrating methane from gases of varying methane content, a study of potential markets for use of methane produced, and an assessment of the opportunities for economic use.
