Geology and Methane Resources of the Upper Freeport Coalbed (Middle Pennsylvania) in Fayette County, Pennsylvania.

The paper describes the location of the Upper Freeport coalbed located in Fayette County, Pennsylvania. The coalbed is estimated to be 2 to 8 feet thick containing approximately 1,340 million tons. The methane content of the Upper Freeport coalbed at depths of 600 to 1,400 feet is estimated to be between 140 to 300 cubic feet per ton of coal. It is indicated that the gas resources in the coalbed in Fayette County is between 190 and 400 billion cubic feet. It is expected that most of this could be recovered.
