Molecular Beam Mass Spectrometry for Studying the Fundamental Chemistry of Flames.

This paper discusses the experimental sampling apparatus, mass spectrometric procedures for identifying and measuring radicals in flames, flame perturbation, data reduction techniques, and specific systems that these techniques have been successfully applied to. Included are flame stabilization techniques, aerodynamic and temperature probing, and the mathematical description of free jet expansion phenomena; the last category contains computer codes for flame modeling.
