Abstract
The objectives of this report were to define the noise sources from roof bolters, loaders, and continuous miners; and to assess and evaluate experimentally in-mine retrofitted measures to reduce operating noise levels of a roof bolter, loading machine, and continuous miner. The latter objective was modified to include not only in-mine retrofits, but also those abatement measures that could be performed in the expanded facilities of a mine or rebuild shop. It was also confined to the roof bolter and loader, as a continuous miner was not available for attenuation within the contract time frame. The work demonstrated that noise of mining machinery can be reduced significantly.
