NTIS: PB/225-181 Available for Reference At Bureau Libraries :17 pages
A small-size continuous-mining machine was designed and constructed. The machine will be used to investigate the effect of assorted cutting parameters on the formation of dust in coal mines. Results will be used in the design of new continuous-mining machines. Coal operators and equipment manufacturers have shown great interest in the preliminary reports of this work. This machine has a wide range of variable cutting parameters such as sump speed, vertical and lateral rates, cutting speed, and pick configuration. Instrumentation is provided to monitor angular velocity of the cutting wheel, sump, vertical and lateral rates, force required to sump, and the force required to rotate the cutting wheel. A service manual accompanies the final report.
