Appl Occup Environ Hyg 1996 Jun; 11(6):522-523
The Proficiency Analytical Testing (PAT) Program was described, and PAT Round 124 was discussed. The individual contaminants analyzed as part of the PAT program include metals, silica (14808607), asbestos (1332214) fibers, and organic solvents. A total of 1,399 laboratories participated in PAT Round 124 in January of 1996. Of the 1,399, 1,297 reported results. In the future there will be some changes. Starting with Round 126, cadmium (7440439) levels will be lowered to comply with OSHA regulations. At least one man made fiber sample will be included with every asbestos fibers kit. Passive monitoring will also be evaluated in Round 126. PAT Round 125 was mailed out on April 1, 1996 and contained the organic solvent methanol (67561) on silica-gel tubes. Metals included cadmium, lead (7439921), and zinc (7440666). Silica had a calcite background and the asbestos fibers included were chrysotile (12001295).
