Maintaining and donning self-contained breathing apparatus.

The purpose for this training manual was to provide students with training as emergency workers in general industry as well as in public service. The manual provided learning activities only in the maintenance and donning of the open circuit, pressure demand, self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) with a belt mounted regulator. No attempt was made to prepare the student for selecting and emergency use of the apparatus. Topics covered in this manual included cleaning and inspecting the face piece assembly, disassembling the assembly, disinfecting and inspecting the face piece assembly, examining the cylinder assembly and testing for leaks and high pressure hose connections, inspecting the regulator, checking the diaphragm integrity, inspecting the regulator components, using the remaining service life warning alarm, donning the SCBA backpack, adjusting the face piece harness, checking the operation of the face piece assembly, and performance testing.
