NIOSH recommendations for occupational safety and health standards.
MMWR Suppl 1985 Jul; 34(Suppl 1):1-31
This report provided, in rapid reference form, the most recent NIOSH recommended exposure limit (REL) for each potential hazard listed. The current OSHA permissible exposure limit (PEL) was also listed. Along with each potential hazard identified were listed the record keeping requirements, what medical surveillance is needed for workers exposed to the substance, whether or not stringent workplace controls are needed, and if the agent is suspected of being a carcinogen. Specific comments were provided on each potential hazard. Recommendations were based on NIOSH policy as previously published in criteria documents, special hazard reviews, occupational hazard assessments, technical guidelines, testimony, and current intelligence bulletins.
