Evaluation of Portable Sulfur Dioxide Meters.
Research Triangle Institute, Research Triangle Park, North Carolina 1974:22 pages
A market survey was conducted to determine the availability of portable direct reading sulfur-dioxide (7446095) meters, and an effort was made to acquire specific meters and evaluate their characteristics, recommend the best use techniques and performance standards, and recommend quality control standards for their proper use. Six different meters were evaluated. They ranged in weight from 7 to 47.5 pounds. The recommendations were that the meters be less than 15 pounds in weight, have either a direct readout of sulfur-dioxide concentrations in parts per million or an easily interpreted reading, have a recorder output to indicate the sulfur- dioxide concentration, and be simple to operate. It was also deemed important that the manuals of instruction be complete and easy to understand, that the meters perform to the intrinsic safety specifications of the US Bureau of Mines, that they be rugged, and easily adjust to zero and span measures. Several requirements were also listed for performance characteristics.
