How to submit data to the Proficiency Analytical Testing (PAT) program via computer modem.
Appl Occup Environ Hyg 1995 Jul; 10(7):585-587
A new computer based program for submitting data to the Proficiency Analytical Testing (PAT) Program was discussed. The program known as the PAT Automated Data Entry System (ADES) was an automated data entry system developed to provide a faster, less error prone method for transmitting data than the traditional method of faxing or mailing results to NIOSH, which administers PAT in conjunction with the American Industrial Hygiene Association. Laboratories participating in the PAT program receive a copy of the ADES program, detailed instructions for using it, and a security password. The instructions were written for personnel with little or no knowledge of computer technology. The ADES program simulated filling out a PAT report form. The program contained several opportunities for correcting mistakes in data entry. Once the results satisfy the user, the program creates a file containing the PAT results. The output file is then uploaded to NIOSH over a modem. The ADES program can be used for all upcoming PAT rounds and runs on any DOS compatible computer.
