The performance of the training program in occupational and environmental health at the University of Cincinnati since its inception in 1947 to the present day was described. Multidisciplinary programs were provided in occupational medicine, occupational health nursing, industrial hygiene, occupational safety, and continuing education. An interactive Occupational Health, Hygiene and Safety Workshop was developed for all students to foster interdisciplinary interaction among the students in year long projects. The Occupational and Environmental Health Center involved the large Medical Center complex which consists of the Colleges of Medicine, Nursing and Health, and Pharmacy; three component University hospitals; the Colleges of Engineering and Law; and the McMicken College of Arts and Sciences. Information was provided on the role of the environmental research center in the community, the individual programs offered, the academic training provided, and the training provided in research fields for industrial hygiene, occupational nursing, occupational medicine, and occupational safety.
