Am Ind Hyg Assoc J 1984 Dec; 45(12):B18
Comment and rebuttal was provided for an article by Kring et al. entitled "Evaluation of the Standard NIOSH Type Charcoal Tube Sampling Method for Organic Vapors in Air" (American Industrial Hygiene Association Journal, April 1984). Comment was by scientists listed in the acknowledgements section who wished to clarify their relation to the article's conclusions. They stated that they were only involved in a general discussion of procedures and an overview presentation of preliminary findings. Furthermore, the authors state that the conclusions were not expected and unacceptable without further corroboration. The authors of the original paper replied that inclusion of the researchers' names was meant as an expression of thanks. They noted four typographical errors in the appendix, reiterated their conclusions, and suggested repetition of the testing protocol by other researchers.
