Report of Visit to Morgantown Energy Research Center (MERC), Morgantown, West Virginia.
Enviro Control, Inc., Rockville, Maryland 1977 Aug:4 pages
A meeting was held between officials from Enviro Control, Inc. and the Morgantown Energy Research Center (MERC), Morgantown, West Virginia to discuss the program at MERC for coal gasification. The group was given a tour of the various facility areas, specifically the gasifier and gasifier sampling apparatus. In the areas which were visited there was very little condensate or tar remaining on the structures, on the equipment itself, or visible in the control room surfaces. A new regulation required that anyone in the gasifier area must wear coveralls, in addition to a safety helmet and safety glasses. The group examined the last 6 months accident record which consisted of one facial burn which occurred during a training session with flammable gas cylinders, several minor cuts on the fingers, and two cases of nonpenetrating foreign objects in the eye. These were all minor accidents and none of them had to do with the operation of the gasifier itself. A description of the ERDA- MERC stirred bed coal gasifier was provided.
