Task I Report on the HYGAS Pilot Plant, Chicago, Illinois.
Bendix Launch Support Division, Cocoa Beach, Florida 1977 Jan:130 pages
As part of an effort to determine potential health effects to workers associated with the rapidly growing coal conversion technology, an in depth study was conducted at the HYGAS pilot coal gasification facility, Chicago, Illinois. The sampling and analytical monitoring strategy developed for the characterization of potential health exposures and all data obtained during the first field survey were provided. A revised and proposed monitoring strategy was developed for Task-II as a result of sampling and analytical procedural problems encountered during Task-I. Proposed sample collection techniques were intended to develop statistically sound data for Task-III consideration. During this initial phase of the contract a bibliography was compiled dealing with occupational health and safety problems associated with these new advances in technology, sampling and analytical references, and the economic feasibility of coal processing.
