Survey for N-Nitroso Compounds at Toms River Chemical Corporation, Subsidiary of Ciba-Geigy Corporation, Toms River, New Jersey, Report No. IWS-072-25.
NIOSH 1978 Jun:9 pages
An on site visit was made to the Toms River Chemical Corporation, Toms River, New Jersey to determine the degree of worker exposure to volatile and nonvolatile N-nitroso compounds, particularly with regard to their exposure to airborne volatile nitrosamines. A determination was also made of the presence or absence of both volatile and nonvolatile N-nitroso compounds which might be present in various bulk samples of chemicals used in the dye process, as this relates to worker exposure. The major routes of exposure as determined by the visit would be through the air, or in the handling of the bulk chemicals during and after the manufacturing steps. No other major routes were evident. Only very low levels of exposure were found to possible N-nitroso compounds. The authors do not recommend any further action to be taken based on the results of these samples.
