American College of Radiology, PHS Contract No. CPE R-70-0035, :107 pages
A home study syllabus was presented which was designed as an aid to physicians taking a teaching seminar related to a program of chest radiography for identifying cases of pneumoconiosis in coal workers. The seminars were conducted by the American College of Radiography under contract to the Bureau of Occupational Safety and Health. The law providing the x-ray program to coal miners was discussed in terms of interpretation. Questions regarding the interpretation of medical examination results were considered. Qualifications for physicians participating in the program were identified. Administration of the program was addressed. The x-ray classification system was discussed in terms of explanations of terms and concepts and interpretation of reading sheets. Two study sets containing blank reading sheets, answers for the study set, and discussion of the study set were provided. A similar test set was included, along with instructions for computing a score, a self evaluation form, and an answer sheet. Additional information consisted of copies of two articles related to reading and classifying chest x-rays, a copy of the law enacting the program, documents to be used in the program, and a reference chart for the UICC/Cincinnati classification of radiographic appearances of pneumoconioses.
