Visual Inspection And Laboratory Test Report On Globe Respirator - Model-2550-W.
NIOSH 1981 May:8 pages
Three 30 minute compressed air open circuit demand self contained breathing apparatus units were evaluated by NIOSH. The units were manufactured by Globe Safety Products, Incorporated. Laboratory bench tests included evaluation of inhalation and exhalation breathing resistance, rated service time, alarm assembly, and gas flow. The units were visually inspected. Each unit had a service life of greater than 30 minutes; however, the units failed these tests because they did not meet the criteria for inhalation resistance. The measured values ranged from 1.33 to 2.24 inches of water at 500 pounds per square inch gauge pressure. The NIOSH criterion is that the maximum inhalation resistance should not exceed 1.25 inches of water. All units passed the performance requirements for the end of service life indicator and gas flow. Visual inspection revealed minor problems. These consisted of the use of high pressure hoses and gauges on the assembled units which were sold as being NIOSH certified; however, these hoses and gauges had not been approved by NIOSH.
