Analytical Methods Evaluation and Validation for 1,2,4- Trichlorobenzene, 1,2,4,5-Tetrachlorobenzene, Pentachlorobenzene, and Polychlorinated Terphenyls.

Analytical methods for the determination of potentially toxic polychlorinated organic substances in workplace atmospheres were developed. Included were tests for 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene (120821), 1,2,4,5-tetrachlorobenzene (95943), pentachlorobenzene (608935), and Aroclor-5460 (11126424). A method was developed and tested for the determination of all three polychlorinated benzenes. Compounds were collected on a sampling device made up of a 13 milliliter filter (millipore type L5, 5 millimeter pore size) in tandem with a sorbent tube containing 20/50 mesh Amberlite XAD-2, compounds were next desorbed with hexane and determined by gas chromatography with electron capture detection (GC/ECD). Determination of Aroclor 5460 was done by collecting it on a glass fiber filter, desorbing it with isooctane, and determining it by GC/ECD. Validation of the foregoing test was incomplete due to failure to find an appropriate sampling and analytical method for their test. A format for research reports was appended.
