Heat Resistance Requirements for Firefighters' SCBA.
NIOSH 1977 Aug:37 pages
Heat resistance standards were developed to improve the manufacture, selection, and testing of the reliability of self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) for firemen. Pain, temperature threshold, sun radiation exposures, and plastic properties were discussed. Test methods were proposed. No significant reports of problems or dissatisfaction with inadequate heat resistance capabilities of current SCBA facepieces were found. The authors recommend that elevated temperature testing be incorporated in approval/certification programs.
