Research Needs In Respiratory Protection.
NIOSH 1980 Sep:27-32
The need for more extensive research on the actual protection afforded by respirators in the workplace is discussed. The results of a variety of studies of the effective protection factors of respirators used in particular industries are reviewed. Two alternative schemes to currently used workplace monitoring techniques to evaluate the performance of respirators are outlined. The author concludes that respirator research should continue to explore techniques for the evaluation of the ultimate performance of respiratory protective devices in the workplace.
