Evaluation of Paint Spray Respirator Performance and Test Requirements.
Bendix Launch Support Divisions, Cocoa Beach, Florida, 1978 Aug:66 pages
The testing apparatus and test procedures used by NIOSH to certify paint spray respirators were evaluated. The development of test procedures for paint spray respirators was reviewed along with laboratory procedures used by respirator equipment manufacturers. Laboratory testing was described in terms of validation of the apparatus and procedure, reproducibility of the test, determination of the uniformity of the aerosol, and validation of the paint spray efficiency test. Conclusions and recommendations for immediate modifications to test parameters are given. Five test runs including a statistical analysis of test data are summarized. The authors recommend that in view of the several test chamber designs and the variations in test procedures, the sensitivity of the paint spray respirator coefficient test indicates, statistically, that a new standardized test chamber and procedures be specified.
