A walk through industrial survey was conducted at Microwave Associates, Inc. (SIC-3674) in Burlington, Massachusetts on March 18, 1981 to examine worker exposure to potentially hazardous agents in semiconductor manufacturing operations, specifically microwave device fabrication processes. Approximately 1300 workers were employed at this facility and no serious deficiencies were noted in the safety and health program. An on call physician and full time nurses, were available for medical emergencies. Biological testing was available for employees exposed to a large quantity of chemicals. Personal protective equipment was provided by the company. The author notes that the company has not experienced any cases of liver damage, kidney malfunction, neurological disease or chronic pulmonary disease and that dermatitis, chemical inhalation and chemical burns are commonly reported health problems.
