Postural Stability Envelopes.
NIOSH :34 pages
Diagrams of human stability for typical somatotypes of like and opposite sex and for different locations of the resultant floor force are compared and discussed. Previous research on forward postural stability and the effects of load moving or holding tasks is reviewed. Postural model data is described and related to space oriented tasks. Postural stability envelopes and disturbance sensitivity indices are presented and discussed. The endomorph and ectomorph somatotypes were compared. The author concludes that the development of these functional relationships should advance methods of improved task design and the development of occupational safety and health standards.
