Aerosol deposition in nose and mouth is described statistically. Previously reported data were analyzed to derive relationships accounting for inspiration and expiration. Further equations were derived to calculate inspiratory and expiratory nasal mean efficiency and predictive relationships for deposition. The authors conclude that the equations giving the mean deposition information, coupled with standard deviation calculations and normal distribution results, completely characterize the statistical behavior of deposition efficiencies.
