Workers exposures to radiofrequency (RF) radiation were surveyed on January 14, 1981 at Weatherking Products, Incorporated (SIC-3079) in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. The evaluation was requested by the Rhode Island Department of Health, Division of Occupational Health and Radiation Control, on behalf of an unspecified number of workers. Electric and magnetic field strengths were measured at worker positions near the RF heat sealers. Electric and magnetic field strengths ranged up to 4280 square volts per square meter (V2/M2) and up to 0.9 square amperes per square meter (A2/M2), respectively; corresponding OSHA standards are 40,000 V2/M2 and strength. The authors recommend the installation of shielding and use of physical barriers.
