A photoplethysmography system used for the simultaneous multifinger qualitative measurement of the vascular bed of the digits is described. The system consists of fiberoptic bundles with cadmium- sulfide photodetectors, a solid state preamplifier, and incandescent lamp. Strip chart recordings of multiple simultaneous photoplethysmographic measures are included. The authors conclude that the photoplethysmography system is a versatile, durable, and reliable instrument for comprehensive field evaluations of peripheral circulation in the fingers.
