Cincinnati, OH: U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Public Health Service, Centers for Disease Control, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, HHE 80-231-835, 1981 Mar; :1-9
Worker exposures to noise were investigated at Technology Products, Incorporated (SIC-3079) in Longmont, Colorado, on November 7, 1980. An unidentified individual requested the evaluation on behalf of an unspecified number of workers. Eight personal noise samples were taken, and the values ranged from 83 decibels on the A-weighted scale (dBA) for 15 minute samples to 99.3dBA for 120 minute samples. None of the personal time weighted average noise levels exceeded the OSHA criteria of 100dBA for 2 hour exposure periods. Area noise levels ranged from 84 to 110dBA. The author concludes that a health hazard from excessive noise exposure exists to the grinding and injector operator. Recommendations include shortened grinding periods, use of grinders with noise dampening, and use of hearing protection equipment for affected employees.
