Osheroff BJ; Bridbord K
Am Ind Hyg Assoc J 1979 Dec; 40(12):1126-1130
The NIOSH requirements for information relating to the impact of new energy technologies on the environment are reviewed. The need for epidemiological studies and their information requirements are outlined, and the need for the development of programs to monitor employee health is stressed. Synthetic fuel producing facilities are discussed and the relationship of synfuels to new and existing types of internal combustion engines is considered. Insulation, including short fiber glass, is discussed in relation to fuel consumption. The protection of workers from health hazards associated with the new technologies also is reviewed. The authors conclude that adequate protection can be achieved through the combined efforts of industry, labor, academia, and government.
