The progress of the completion of a contract for measuring ventilation and perfusion ratios in normal and diseased lungs is discussed. The author notes that the accomplished results include the development of a mass spectrography (MS) system for multiple inert gas analysis, the design of a system to measure blood gas partition by MS, design of a system to measure gas permeability through membranes, preliminary in-vivo evaluation of the MS system and the identification of inert gases to increase the flexibility of the MS system.
