Working conditions were surveyed at the Stearns and Foster Company (SIC-2515) in Cincinnati, Ohio, on March 28, 1972. Cotton usage work materials, and the number of workers involved in each step of mattress making were investigated. Garnetting, panels and boards, quilting, box spring packing, and mattress building employed approximately 20, 66, 18, 16, and 47 workers, respectively. Dust was found around and on the machines in the garnetting and quilting areas and on the floors in the mattress building section. In general, the air appeared relatively clear and ventilation was adequately accomplished by cross ventilation from open windows and exhaust hoods.
