Cincinnati, OH: U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, Public Health Service, Centers for Disease Control, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, IWS 53-11b, 1978 Apr; :1-31
The potential for leukemia development among workers was investigated at the Texas United States Chemical Company (SIC-2822) in Port Neches, Texas, from April 11 to 14, 1977. Styrene (100425) and butadiene (106990) concentrations were determined from 13 personal breathing zone samples and 10 general area samples. Concentrations of both styrene and butadiene compounds were below OSHA standards. The author recommends that workers receive physical examinations prior to employment and at quarterly intervals. Leaks should be continuously inspected, and safety equipment should be supplied and explained when needed.
