The NIOSH analytical method S390 for determining dibutyl-phosphate (107664) in air is described. Samples are collected on a Teflon filter, extracted with acetonitrile and analyzed by gas chromatography with a flame photometric detector. The working range of the method is 2.29 to 10.0 milligrams per cubic meter, the coefficient of variance is 0.054, and the detection limit is 14 micrograms per milliliter for a 1.0 microliter injection. Analytical apparatus, reagents and procedures are described, and calculations are provided for determining sample concentrations. Data on collection efficiency, particle size distribution, and recovery and stability rates is included. The method was unsatisfactory because the accuracy could not be adequately determined.
