Failure Report No. S145.
NIOSH 1977 Sep:5 pages
Test results using the NIOSH analytical method S145 for ethylenediamine (107153) are reported. Two procedures were evaluated: collection on silica-gel (10193369), desorption with methanol (67561) and analysis by gas chromatography with a flame ionization detector; and collection in a midget bubble containing dilute acid, derivatization with fluorescamine, and analysis by high pressure liquid chromatography with a fluorescence detector. Analytical procedures are described. The first methods were unsatisfactory because of inadequate chromatographic resolution and insensitivity of the flame ionization detector. The second method did not provide sufficient stability of the fluorescent product.
