Abstract
The NIOSH analytical method S17 for determining furfural (98011) in air is described. The sample is collected through a midget bubbler and analyzed by high pressure liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection at 312 nanometers. The working range of the method is 10.1 to 40 milligrams per cubic meter, the coefficient of variance is 0.054, and the detection limit is 20 micrograms per sample. Analytical equipment, reagents and procedures are described, and calculations are provided for calibration and standardization. Data on recovery rates is included.
