Worker exposures to benzene (71432) were surveyed at W.M. Barr and Company, Incorporated, (SIC-2869) in Memphis, Tennessee, on April 8, 1976. The company was under consideration for inclusion in a NIOSH study of the health effects of benzene exposure. Personal samples collected from filler machine operators and packers had benzene concentrations of 38.56 and 8.57 parts per million, respectively. The author concludes that the personal sample for the filler machine operator collected over a 76 minute period indicates a violation of the OSHA standard and the existence of a health hazard.
