NIOSH :166 pages
Mortality patterns among pesticide manufacturers and formulators at the Montrose Chemical Corporation (SIC-2879) in Torrance, California, were studied. The population included about 2,300 workers employed for at least 6 months between 1940 and 1964. Vital status was determined through 1976. Detailed demographic and employment history was obtained for each subject. An excess death rate from malignant neoplasms of the respiratory system was found independent of duration of employment. The results of a preliminary walk through survey of the facility conducted on February 14, 1978, are included; the survey was performed to determine the suitability of the company for inclusion in an epidemiological survey of the pesticide manufacturing and formulating industry.
