An Industrial Hygiene Dust Survey of Standard Pozzolan, Inc., Plant near Flagstaff, Arizona.
NIOSH 1962 Dec:5 pages
Air sampling for silica (7631869) dust was conducted at Standard Pozzolan, Incorporated (SIC-3281), near Flagstaff, Arizona, on November 14, 1962. Air samples from the switch room contained 2.2 to 10.2 million particles per cubic foot (mppcf) of silica dust. Dust concentrations at the kiln operators station were 1.0mppcf. An area sample at the station revealed dust concentration of 0.8mppcf. In the machine shop, dust concentrations were 0.7mppcf, while in the raw material stockpile, dust concentrations averaged 11.2mppcf. Counts of airborne silica dust did not exceed the recommended limits of 16mppcf. The authors recommend that dust type respirators be provided for workers exposed to substantial dust concentrations.
