Results of air samples at American Brake Shoe Company, Friction Plant, Winchester, Virginia.
NIOSH 1966 Jan; :1-12
Air sampling for asbestos (1332214) was conducted at the American Brake Shoe Company, Friction Division (SIC-3714), in Winchester, Virginia, in September, 1965. All samples were collected with impinger and membrane filter samplers. Breathing zone impinger samples ranged from 0.1 to 3.9 million particles per cubic foot (mppcf) of asbestos. Breathing zone air samples collected with a membrane filter contained up to 4.5 fibers greater than 10 microns in length per cubic centimeter (f/cc). Membrane filter personal air samples ranged from none detected to 7.3f/cc. All dust concentrations, measured by the impinger, were below the 5mppcf threshold limit value. No standards have been set for membrane filter measurements.
