An information profile on magnetic fields is presented. Sources and field ranges of magnetic fields are included. The occurrence of magnetic fields is discussed and magnetic flux densities produced by commonly used electrical appliances are listed. The number of persons occupationally exposed to magnetic fields is estimated, and trends in the occurrence of magnetic fields are noted. The biologic effects of exposure to magnetic fields are reviewed and human and animal studies are cited. Recommendations by the Department of Labor and the Soviet Union are listed.
