Heat shielding materials and design guidelines.

Material property data and effective heat shield locations to protect workers from thermal radiation in industry are presented. Property data include measured reflectances of 75 selected reflective and insulation materials. Thermal conductivities and service temperatures of insulation materials are described. Measurements by radiant intensity emitted by the cool side of a shield are given for 75 different types of shields composed of typical heat shield materials. Shields placement for maximal benefit is described. Calculations are included for determining shield temperature, heat flux and calculation of radiant intensities from blackbody sources.
