Occupational safety and health program practices for institutions of higher education: a procedures manual.
NIOSH 1977 Jul; :1-249
A procedure manual was developed to assist institutions of higher education in assessing their safety and health needs, and establishing a comprehensive program to meet these needs within the framework of their administrative structures. The guidelines and procedures described in this manual are based on accepted safety and health practices. OSHA regulations, and other standards applicable to a majority of educational institutions. The manual addresses the necessity for developing sound OSHA procedures and controls, as well as identifying and correcting potential hazards. A sound preventative approach, requiring top level administrative support, assignment of responsibilities, and well defined activities is recommended. The manual includes guidelines for the development of an OSHA program and selection of administrative and management personnel. Technical information regarding the identification and handling of basic potential hazard areas is provided along with inspection checklists.
