Summary of Plant Observation Reports and Evaluation for Mercaptans: Volume I.
NIOSH 1978 May:190 pages
The Permevolt Corporation, NGO Division of Helmerick and Payne, the Phillips Petroleum Company, and the Monsanto Company were evaluated for cyclohexanethiol (1569693), n-alkane thiols, methanethiol (74931), ethanethiol (75081), and n-alkane thiol contamination. Process description, medical surveillance programs, use of protective clothing and equipment, work practices, sanitation procedures, and environmental monitoring at each facility were reviewed. The authors propose several recommendations to reduce exposure to the mercaptans, including identification of hazard areas, use of personal monitoring devices and protective clothing, improved worker and workplace hygiene, and periodic medical examinations.
