Methodological and practical issues related to shiftwork research.
J Occup Med 1980 Mar; 22(3):163-166
Methodological considerations for the evaluation and implementation of cross sectional research studies on shiftwork are discussed. The author cites inconsistencies in current literature regarding the health impact of shiftwork, and suggests that these disparities are partly due to methodological and reporting shortcomings. Selected methodological problems such as differential accretion and crossover, practical problems including operant definitions, and problems of research design and communication are discussed, along with proposed solutions.
