Safety Information Profile: Waste Disposal of Industrial Solvents.
NIOSH 1979 Apr:37 pages
A safety information profile is presented for industrial solvents waste disposal (Standard Industrial Classification 28). Different types of incineration methods are described together with landfill and evaporation processes. Potential health and safety hazards are presented and existing controls are discussed. No related accident and illness statistics, exposure levels, or related studies are available. Industry trends are described. Existing and proposed regulations are reviewed. A summary of groups of generally used industrial solvents is included. A list of names and addresses of industry associations and other interested parties is provided. It is concluded that the waste solvent disposal industry is currently undergoing changes, and that proposed standards will directly influence the direction of these changes. A thorough study is recommended to evaluate the effectiveness of present and proposed regulations.
