Abstract
A safety information profile is presented for the glass bottle manufacturing industry (Standard Industrial Classification 3221). A process description is given and existing hazard controls are reviewed. Tabulated data on accidents and illnesses are presented, and past studies are cited. Industry growth trends are discussed. A list of names and addresses of industry associations and other interested parties is provided together with a map of geographic locations. It is concluded that the major health hazard is excessive noise levels, but due to the state of the art of noise control engineering, compliance with federal regulations is not industry wide. Recommendations include the use of protective equipment and audiometric testing on a continuing basis. Further study of potential toxic exposure and heat stress is also recommended.
