Abstract
The molecular structure, chemical abstracts service number, registry of toxic effects of chemical substances number, production figures and economic trends, uses, and producer and user data are given for nitrobenzene (98953) and m-dinitrobenzene (99650). The biological effects of exposure are described, including target organs, acute, subchronic and chronic effects, and human effects. Both substances damage the liver and the central nervous system; nitrobenzene is mutagenic in bacteria. The threshold limit values are 1 ppm and 1 milligram per cubic meter for nitrobenzene and all the dinitrobenzene isomers respectively. (Contract No 210-77-0120)
