Abstract
The molecular structure, chemical abstracts service number, registry of toxic effects of chemical substances number, production figures and economic trends, uses, and producer and user data are given for manganese (7439965) and six of its compounds. The biological effects of exposure are described, including target organs, acute, chronic and human effects. Manganese, manganese-dioxide (1313139), manganous-chloride (7773015) manganese-dioxide (1313139), manganous- chloride (7773015), and manganous-sulfate (7785877) exert their major effects on the brain and lungs. Manganese- ethylenebisdithiocarbamate (301031) is carcinogenic and teratogenic. Threshold limit value and other standards are given for manganese and its inorganic compounds, and for cyclopentadienyl-manganese- tricarbonyl. (Contract No 210-77-0120)
